Tannery Workers Union organized a media dialogue on February 9, 2025, at Savar, Dhaka to address the recently declared Minimum Wage for tannery sector workers.
The Minimum Wage Board has set the monthly minimum wage at Tk 18,001, marking a significant step towards ensuring fair compensation for tannery workers. However, the focus now shifts to effective implementation to guarantee that workers receive their rightful wages.
Mahmudul Hasan Khan, Deputy Director of Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) addressed in the meeting and stressed the urgency of implementation of minimum wage and monitoring to uphold workers’ rights.
As the tannery sector plays a vital role in Bangladesh’s economy, it is essential that this minimum wage is not just on paper but actively enforced to improve the lives of thousands of workers.
