GENDER EQUALITY

GENDER EQUALITY

In the last two decades, there has been considerable progress in Bangladesh in terms of the participation of women in the labour force. During the period of 1996-2017, the national rate of female labour force participation increased from 15.8 to 36.3 percent. While increased female labour force participation has contributed to economic growth and human development, gender-based violence at the workplace undermines workplace productivity and profitability. Lack of proper implementation of existing laws against sexual harassment is the key issue in gender-based violence at the workplace. Addressing GBVH is important for creating a safe, respectful and competitive work environment. Bangladesh Labour Foundation (BLF) has been working to ensure a safe workplace for women and promote social and economic justice.
