YOUTH & WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

Bangladesh has made remarkable progress concerning women’s empowerment over the past 25 years. The 7th Five Year Plan (2016-2020) of the Bangladesh Government has emphasised women’s engagement in political and economic activities as a cross-cutting issue, and one of the main drivers of transformation to a middle-income country. As a result, the participation of women in the workforce increased, women entrepreneurship flourished, and women’s leadership in society has been accepted. Bangladesh ranked 50th worldwide, and first in South Asia in the 2020 Global Gender Gap Index. Since Women are increasingly becoming part of the paid workforce, they need to be part of the trade unions inclusively and also empower themselves in organising, collective bargaining, and rights Youth constitute a third of the Bangladeshi population has a strong potential to fuel our economic growth. The government of Bangladesh wants to ensure maximum utilisation of youth potential, empowerment, developing moral, humane, inventor youth to uphold the responsibilities and glory of Bangladesh, 

in line with the Bangladesh Youth Policy-2017. So, it’s essential to focus on preparing our young population for better future and also creating work opportunities. The youth must be equipped with skills to meet the fourth industrial revolution. Young people are critical to the future of trade unionism and to the strength, effectiveness and legitimacy of trade union organisation. BLF and its associated organisations work together with the government target to acknowledge and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4, 5, 8, 10, 13 and 16 aimed at the empowerment of women and youth.
